Club members and their guests enjoyed a very special evening to celebrate Burns Night and raise over £1200 towards our next new gig. After an hilarious Address to the Haggis by our very own Maddy Spinks, over 100 Burns suppers were consumed to a rousing performance from the Cadgwith Singers, who literally sang for their supper!
The organising committee, comprising Hattie, Lucy, Fran, Lauren and Philippa, spent weeks organising the event and prepared 30kg hand-peeled mashed potatoes, 25kg carrot and swede mash, 30 haggis and veggie haggis; 12 pints of homemade whisky gravy, 10kg of peas, 120 homemade hand finished whisky truffles, 120 shortbread fingers and tea and fresh coffee.
Partygoers also enjoyed Scottish Dancing - ably compered by Misri, Black Jack and a pay bar, appropriately stocked to include a choice of malt whiskies.
It was great to see club members old and new with their guests, as well as those living nearby with no apparent connection to the club, but eager to experience the promise of an HRGC social.
Special thanks to Martin Barlow for donating dinner for two at the Budock Vean, which was raffled to raise over £200, and Mike from the Black Swan for providing bar drinks at cost. Also, to the team of organisers and helpers - too many to mention, but you know who you are – who worked so hard to make the evening a success, and lots of fun for all.
