On 8th September 2018, Helford's Bar Buoys crew took on the challenge of London's Great River Race. Rowing Merthen 21.6 miles from Millwall to Richmond is no mean feat and the crew did exceptionally well!
The crew comprised of one cox and seven rowers. The Great River Race rules state a passenger is required for the duration of the event. The Bar Buoys swapped in and out during the race, sharing the rowing equally. The Thames is notoriously complex to navigate at the best of times, even more so when competing against 320 other fixed seat boats. The crew successfully manoeuvred through all 28 bridges and arrived in Richmond 2 hours and 39 minutes later.
The Bar Buoys finished 40th overall out of 320 fixed seat boats and 9th out of 50 in the Cornish Gig class.
